ATLAS 175 Wsr mobile excavator in special civil engineering – abundant power for add-on suction devices, drill drives, and more – flexible with fully hydraulic quick coupler – training and service as key factors

Microtunneling with slurry transport and screw conveyance, pipe eating, pilot pipe driving, etc. are the methods that Witte Spezialtiefbau GmbH successfully employs on a nationwide basis. “The prerequisite is the ability to effectively handle the respective construction projects with our machinery and equipment. To achieve this, we have now purchased the powerful and

flexible ATLAS 175 Wsr,” says Peer Figul, Managing Director of Witte GmbH. The ATLAS 175 Wsr is a mobile excavator in the 18-tonne class with 115 kW/180 hp engine power. Its AWE 5 hydraulic system features three additional hydraulic circuits. That’s really important because the 175 Wsr is equipped with a range of special add-on devices. These are essential for civil engineering

processes.

Seven additional tools

The ATLAS is equipped with a fully hydraulic OQ 70/55 quick coupler, a clamshell grab with a width of 80 cm and another with a width of 60 cm, a

TinBin TC2 add-on suction device, a 1.5 m arm extension, an ABI BA drilling
drive and an ABI HVR vibrator.

The hydraulics of the 175 W, featuring an output of 260 l/min at an operating pressure of 350 bar, provide more than enough power to expose pipes without causing damage, avoid damaging tree roots or clear out shafts using the add-on suction device, for example. The fully hydraulic quick coupler is also ideal. It is possible to change all add- on devices, whether with or without hydraulic drive, from the cab. This even includes the add-on vibrator, which can be used to install double T-beams. Stable ATLAS

“We opted for the 175 Wsr mobile excavator because it is sturdy and stable with impressive performance. This gives us a very powerful machine that is ideal for our tasks,” explains Figul. The mobile excavator has a dead weight of approx. 18 tonnes. The maximum reach is over 9 metres, depending on the boom. The maximum load capacity is 18.6 tonnes. When watching it at work, you notice that it does not tend to tilt, even with heavy add-on devices. The wide axles – 2.75 m instead of 2.50 m – ensure stability. It is also very manoeuvrable. Featuring a radius of 1.72 m, it has the smallest slewing radius in its class, a gradient climbing ability of 55% and is capable of rotating the upper carriage 9 times per minute.

The cosy living quarters

At 69 d/B(A), the ATLAS 175 Wsr keeps things quiet in the cab, pretty much the driver’s living quarters. Top visibility plus cameras on the right and rear ensure safety with a 360° view all around.

Comfortable seat, air conditioning, high- contrast display, removable front window, integrated cool box and many more features create a workplace that provides excellent conditions for high performance throughout the working day. And let’s not forget the easily accessible service points on the excavator, which also make routine maintenance a breeze.

Speed and reliability are key

“Our work often involves replacing pipes from A to B without affecting the surface. We are specialists in this field,” explains Figul. One example is the pipe eating process, in which an existing pipe is driven over. In this case, the old pipe is removed and the new one with the same dimensions is installed. Working proceeds from a starting shaft to a target shaft. The ATLAS 175 Wsr prepares the respective shafts without causing any damage. ATLAS dealer Friedrich Rohwedder GmbH from Berlin was able to advise on the best mobile excavator and the optimal add-on devices for this task. The company is celebrating its 100th

anniversary this year. It now employs 150 people across seven locations in Berlin and Brandenburg.

Expert advice and reliable, rapid service are what set Rohwedder apart.

Well-trained service staff are on the road in the region with 40 workshop vehicles to ensure this.

Well trained means good work

The ATLAS 175 Wsr and add-on devices were handed over to Witte

Spezialtiefbau at the Rohwedder branch in Berlin. The entire handover day was spent training the excavator operators. They needed to learn and
perfect how to use the hydraulic quick coupler, handle the excavator, attach the devices, etc. “The fact that we can rely on Rohwedder is something very
important to us. Not only in terms of training, but also when it comes to advice
and service. That’s a big plus today,” says Peer Figul.
