ATLAS 16-tonne wheeled excavator 155 W in pipeline construction – perfectly matched capabilities and tasks – highly manoeuvrable wheeled excavator for line construction – centimetre-accurate working – stable and gentle on the surroundings
In Bielefeld, on Eckendorfer Straße, three large utility shafts operated by the municipal utilities company are being renewed. To carry out the work, the main road has been reduced to a single lane. Working in and around the three shafts requires precise handling, especially as space is extremely limited. On site for Rohrnetz-Technik Schaumburg GmbH is an ATLAS 155 W wheeled excavator. Equipped with a rotating grab, it is the fast, reliable base machine for this task.
With an operating weight of 16 tonnes and a 115 kW / 150 hp engine, the 155 W is a nimble all-rounder. With its adjustable boom it reaches up to 9.8 m, digs down to 6.2 m and delivers a breakout force of 100 kN.
Quiet and stable
You can see the machine working, but you can hardly hear it. It is remarkable what a sound level of 69 dB(A) inside the cab and 96 dB(A) outside means in everyday use: very little engine noise. That is pleasant not only for the operator but especially for people in the surrounding area. The same applies to the machine’s “grounded” behaviour. Even in demanding working situations and under load, the ATLAS 155 W stands securely and confidently. Double tyres, heavy-duty axles and the very solid, well-thought-out undercarriage design make this possible.
Manoeuvrability required – and delivered
With a swing radius of just 1.98 m, the 155 W offers a real advantage here in Bielefeld. The machine avoids collisions with passing traffic, signs or nearby buildings. Depending on requirements, different stick lengths (1.96 m to 3.55 m) and booms (4.7 m to 5.05 m) can be used. These are excellent conditions for a wide variety of tasks and, above all, changing environments.
The fine hydraulics
The quality of the 155 W hydraulics becomes clear in situations where sensitivity and precision are essential – excavating in sensitive areas without damaging underground lines, for example. On site, the AWE 5 system shows how well this works on an ATLAS. Proportionally independent control, for instance for the grab and grab-rotation function, enables very precise operation. Three further circuits can be added for auxiliary consumers, and three operating modes help to make work more economical. The hydraulics deliver up to 260 l/min flow rate at a maximum operating pressure of 320 bar.
A comfortable, safe workplace
Even the best machine can only perform at its full potential if the operator feels comfortable in the cab. In the 155 W it is not only extremely quiet but genuinely “hyggelig”, as the Danes say – pleasantly comfortable. Freedom of movement, health and safety are the key factors the ATLAS wheeled excavator offers.
There is plenty of space when entering the cab and inside it. The air-suspended seat is adjustable in every direction, heated, and equipped with lumbar support – your back will thank you. An electric cool box can be fitted. A high-contrast display ensures excellent readability, even in bright sunlight thanks to the tinted heat-protective glazing. Automatic climate control keeps the working day pleasant.
Equally important is the clear view of the work area and surroundings. The large, all-round glazed cab, the right-hand side camera and the rear-view camera all contribute to safety.
Experts ensure quality and efficiency
Rohrnetz-Technik Schaumburg GmbH, based in Bielefeld, was founded in 1972, has grown continuously and today employs around 200 people. They are specialists in pipeline and plant construction, pipeline rehabilitation, geothermal energy, photovoltaics and charging infrastructure. A large, task-specific fleet of machines provides the ideal basis for tackling a wide range of technical and economic challenges. Several ATLAS excavators form part of this fleet.
ATLAS machines are supported by Tecklenborg Bau- und Industriemaschinen, headquartered in Werne. With five locations across North Rhine-Westphalia, they provide advice and service – for both purchase and rental. More than 100 specialists are available to assist customers. “Tecklenborg is fast and reliable, as we know from many years of cooperation,” says Mike Stresow, Managing Director of RTS.
