ATLAS GmbH, based in Ganderkesee, Germany, will exhibit at iaf 2025, the world’s largest track technology exhibition, held in Münster, Germany, from May 20 to May 22, 2025, showcasing their advanced rail-road excavators. Held every four years, iaf gathers leading international track technology and railway construction companies. Spanning 15,000 square meters, the event features cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions.

In 1965, ATLAS introduced the first rail-road excavator, marking a significant industry milestone. Since then, it has remained a leading and reliable manufacturer. Rooted in German craftsmanship, ATLAS prioritizes premium quality, durability, and efficiency.

Over all three days, ATLAS will showcase its rail-road excavators — 1404ZWcr, 235RR, and 235VTR — on track section B-503. Manufactured in Germany, these machines boast cutting-edge technology, exceptional performance, and sustainable design. Both models offer optimal solutions for track construction and maintenance, meeting the industry’s most stringent demands.

The ATLAS 1404ZWcr rail-road excavator stands out for its robust technology and reliability in the most challenging conditions. With swivel radii of 1,575 mm, 1,750 mm, and 1,950 mm, it operates precisely in any layout of the premises. Boasting a maximum reach of 7.3 m, a digging depth of 5.1 m, low fuel consumption, and a long service life, this excavator delivers efficient and sustainable performance for modern track construction. Powered by a 95 kW (130 hp) 4-cylinder Deutz engine, the 19.5-21.5-ton machine offers impressive strength. Its rail-road capability enables seamless transitions between road and track modes, while four-wheel drive and a specialized track traction system ensure exceptional agility and dependability. The fully hydraulic quick-change system enhances precision and efficiency. The “cr” in the excavator’s name signifies “combi railroad”, indicating that the excavator can be supplied with – or with additional different – rail undercarriages. This makes it possible to work, for example, on a construction site for a tram with 1,100mm-tracks and, after a quick conversion, on a railway line with a track width of 1,435 mm.

The ATLAS 235RR rail-road excavator redefines excellence in power, stability, and efficiency, offering a tailored solution for current and future challenges. With an operating weight of 22 to 23.5 tons and a cutting-edge 115 kW (157 hp) Deutz 4-cylinder engine, the 235RR delivers remarkable power with low emissions. Its water-cooled turbo engine complies with the latest emission standards (EU Stage 5 / US EPA Tier 4 Final) while maintaining fuel efficiency. Equipped with a Linde load-sensing hydraulic system, it optimizes power delivery and adapts seamlessly to varying work conditions. The power boost mode provides extra strength when needed, enhancing performance and versatility.

The ATLAS 235RR boasts a robust undercarriage and specially designed track axles, delivering exceptional load-bearing capacity. Its Rothe Erde slewing ring ensures an impressively long service life. The 235RR is equipped with advanced safety and comfort features, including a standard 180-degree camera, LED headlights, and rear and side cameras. The ergonomically designed cab features a customizable premium driver’s seat, intuitive controls, and superior soundproofing, providing unparalleled comfort for operators.

To boost efficiency on construction sites, the ATLAS 235RR includes a telemetry system that delivers real-time operating data and simplifies maintenance. Fitted with a robust wagon brake, this rail-road excavator can safely handle braked loads of up to 120 tons (unbraked 40 tons). A diverse range of in-house attachment tools ensures maximum efficiency with minimal wear.

The ATLAS 235RR shines with swift railing and de-railing, providing a vital time-saving edge on high-pressure construction sites.

The new 22-23-ton ATLAS rail-road excavator 235VTR with friction drive is powered by a turbocharged 115 kW (157 PS) Deutz TCD 4.1 engine that complies with the latest emission standards (EU Stage 5 / US EPA Tier 4 Final). Owing to its very compact design, a swivel radius of 1.750 mm and multiple attachment options, the 235VTR can be adapted to a wide range of applications. Its short rail undercarriage lets you work on tight-radius curves with an excellent view of the track axles. All wheels are equipped with brakes that act as holding as well as active brakes and are fail-safe due to spring pressure in the cylinders. This enhances traction and shortens the braking distance on wet rails. Four stabilizers that can be operated per side ensure excellent lateral stability and a particularly firm stand on the rails. Depending on the requirements of our customers, the ATLAS 235VTR is available for use on different track widths and, as an option, it can also be fitted with a dual cab and a man basket.

We warmly invite all IAF visitors to experience the ATLAS 1404ZWcr, 235RR, and 235VTR rail-road excavators in action at track section B-503. Discover our latest technological innovations and the advantages of German engineering firsthand.
